Il fuoco nel sud Italia è un elemento simbolico e rituale di grande importanza, espressione enantiosemica della sua cultura.
Se, infatti il fuoco viene utilizzato nelle aree agricole per bruciare residui di
coltivazione e per "pulire" i terreni, secondo una tradizione antica e radicata, il suo apparente effetto positivo cela gravi conseguenze per i terreni, quali la perdita di umidità, la distruzione della materia organica, erosione del suolo, perdita della biodiversità, inquinamento atmosferico.
Se da un lato viene utilizzato nei riti religiosi simbolo di devozione e preghiera nei confronti dei santi, dall’altro ne viene utilizzata la violenta forza distruttrice che, ogni anno, per mano di piromani, consuma gli ultimi brandelli di naturalità.
Prometeo è un oggetto che vuole rappresentare la parte migliore del fuoco,
quella del sole estivo che, da sempre, cuoce fichi e pomodori per farli durare
nel tempo, risorsa prelibata per i tempi più freddi. La sua forma e funzione,
quella di vassoio per offrire il cibo in tavola, sono ispirate ai cannizzi, su cui i
frutti della terra vengono offerti, ancora oggi, al sole.
Il fuoco ritorna anche nel materiale, il legno, bruciato secondo la tradizione giapponese Shou Sugi Ban, per renderlo più resistente, in maniera naturale, all’acqua e agli attacchi biologici.

Its form and function that of a tray for offering food on the table, is inspired by the cannizzi, on which the fruits of the earth are offered, even today, to the sun.
Fire also returns in the material, wood, burnt according to the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban tradition, to make it more resistant, in a natural way, to water and biological attacks.
