Materallo, non è un semplice gallo ma rappresenta il gallo che vive sui tetti di Matera. A differenza dei galletti sulle banderuole, Materallo evoca quelli materani di pietra, utilizzati, non per segnalare la direzione dei venti, ma per chiudere le canne fumarie dei camini. Come i loro analoghi in lamiera, il posizionamento sul tetto avveniva per portare fortuna alla casa. Il gallo è stato, infatti, utilizzato nell’arte, simbolicamente, per rappresentare il trionfo del bene sul male, la Resurrezione e la vittoria della vita sulla morte, poiché il suo canto segna il passaggio dalle tenebre alla luce. Dall’arte la sua rappresentazione simbolica è passata alla cultura popolare divenendo portatore di fortuna.

Materallo vuole quindi avere un significato positivo e di buon auspicio per chi lo vuole possedere o regalare; ma soprattutto vuole offrire un momento di svago ad adulti e bambini. È, infatti, un puzzle tridimensionale, pensato come un Tangram, che si ricompatta nella sua scatolina.

In questo gioco rompicapo sbagliare, però, è lecito, perché, montando Materallo, molti animali fantastici potrebbero trovare casa sui tetti di Matera.

Materallo is not a simple rooster but represents the rooster that lives on the roofs of Matera, which, unlike the cockerels on the weather vanes, was used not to signal the direction of the winds, but to close the ues of the chimneys. However, it shared the function of bringing good luck to the house with its sheet metal counterparts. This task that popular culture has attributed to it probably derives from the symbolic value that the rooster had in art, i.e. the triumph of good over evil, the Resurrection and the victory of life over death, evidently linked to his crowing which marked the transition from darkness to light.
Materallo has a positive and auspicious meaning for those who want to own or give it as a gift; but above all it wants to oer a moment of leisure for adults and children. It is, in fact, a puzzle, like a Tangram, but three-dimensional.
In this puzzle game, however, it is possible to make mistakes, because, by assembling Materallo, many other fantastic animals could find home on the roofs of Matera.
